고양이 3마리, 너구리 4마리, 그리고 천하보다 귀한 어린이 4명

봄이 되어서인지 만물이 소생하고 있습니다. 그중에 제가 매일 먹이를 주던 고양이 한 마리가 새끼를 낳았습니다. 너무 예뻐서 모두 다 키우고 싶은 마음이 있었지만, 현재 선교회 주변에는 약 8마리의 길고양이가 이미 먹이를 의지하고 있어 더 늘어나는 것은 어려울 것 같았습니다. 안타깝지만 어미에게 사정을 이야기하고 새끼들은 입양을 보냈습니다. 어미 고양이가 저를 용서할지는 모르겠지만, 마음에 미안함이 남아 있습니다.

선교회 건물에 둥지를 틀고 있던 너구리도 4마리의 새끼를 낳았습니다. 천장 타일을 부수고 여기저기 구멍을 내는 바람에, 새끼들을 생포하여 건물 밖에 두었습니다. 밤사이 어미가 와서 새끼들을 데리고 이사를 갔습니다. 참으로 다행입니다.

고양이는 입양을 보내고, 너구리는 내보냈습니다. 그러나 천하보다 귀한 아이들은 선교회의 목적이자 우리의 사명입니다. 이 아이들이 대학에 진학할 때까지 꾸준히 돌보며, 하나님의 사랑으로 먹이고 가르치고, 생명책에 이름이 기록되기를 위해 기도할 것입니다.

감사한 소식이 있습니다. 지난 월요일(2026년 4월 27일), 20년 전 선교회 여름성경학교에 참여했던 한 청년이 감사의 전화를 해왔습니다. 현재 그는 버지니아에서 사이버 보안 회사를 운영하며 성공적인 삶을 살아가고 있습니다. 무엇보다 감사한 것은, 그 청년의 이름이 몇 년 전 패터슨에서 발생한 강도 사건의 인물과 같아 마음이 무거웠었는데, 이번 통화를 통해 제 추측이 틀렸음을 알게 된 것입니다. 20년 만에 기쁜 소식을 전해준 이 청년에게 감사하며, 잠시 선교회를 거쳐간 아이를 이렇게 잘 자라게 하신 하나님께 감사와 영광을 드립니다.

또 하나의 감사한 소식은 어린이 사역자를 모시게 되었다는 것입니다. 주님의 길 교회 안현일 목사님의 사모님이신 김혜경 사모님께서 이달부터 선교회에서 풀타임으로 사역하시게 되었습니다. 겸손한 성품과 따뜻한 어머니의 마음으로 아이들을 가르치시는 김혜경 사모님을 보내주신 하나님께 감사드립니다.

Three Cats, Four Raccoons, and Four Children More Precious Than the World

With the arrival of spring, all of creation is coming back to life. One of the cats I feed daily recently gave birth to kittens. They were so adorable that I wanted to keep them all. However, since there are already about eight stray cats relying on the meals provided by our mission, I felt it would not be wise for their number to increase further. With a heavy heart, I explained the situation to the mother cat and arranged for the kittens to be adopted. I do not know if the mother cat will forgive me, but I truly feel sorry.

A raccoon that had made its home in our mission building also gave birth to four babies. They damaged ceiling tiles and made holes throughout the building. We carefully captured the babies and placed them outside. During the night, the mother returned, gathered her babies, and moved them away. We are thankful that everything worked out well.

We sent the kittens for adoption and drove the raccoons away. However, the children—who are more precious than anything in this world—are the very purpose and calling of our mission. We will continue to care for them faithfully until they enter college, providing for them, educating them with God’s love, and praying that their names will be written in the Book of Life.

We have some encouraging news. This past Monday (April 27, 2026), a young man who attended our Vacation Bible School 20 years ago called to express his gratitude. He is now running a cybersecurity company in Virginia and has become successful in his field. What was even more meaningful to me was that his name was the same as someone who had been arrested in Paterson a few years ago for a robbery, which had troubled me. Through our conversation, I realized my assumption had been wrong. I am thankful for this young man who reached out after 20 years, and above all, I give thanks and glory to God for raising up a child who once passed through our mission to live such a life.

We also have another piece of good news. We have welcomed a new children’s ministry worker. Mrs. Hyekyung Kim, the wife of Pastor Hyunil Ahn of  Way Maker Church, has joined our mission as a full-time staff member starting this month. We are grateful to God for sending her to us. She teaches the children with humility and a warm, motherly heart.

Prayer Requests

1. We are planning a 5-week Vacation Bible School this summer. So far, three teams have committed to participate:

2. We are planning to demolish the mission building this fall.

   • Demolition cost: $50,000
